A Look at Levi’s 701 XX Women’s Jeans

It’s interesting how little collector interest there is in the Levi’s 701 model, famously worn by Miss Norma Jeane and first introduced in 1934 as a women’s version of the 501. The 701 has all the classic features but as Lynn Downey (LS&CO Historian) explains; a softer weave, pre washed denim a more feminine cut in the hips but still wide in the leg like the 501.

Vintage 701’s on the bay go for peanuts compared to their male counterparts; a pair of dead stock 701’s from the 40’s/50’s will finish at less than $200! A pair of 501’s from this era in that condition will set you back at least $2000+. All I can say is, what’s with this ‘gender pay gap’? Do Japanese dealors have something against women? Here are a typical pair that are currently on eBay.

***UPDATE***These finished on $157.60!

Interesting redline selvage

Single sided tab

Nice hidden rivets going on.

Raised LS&CO rivets and unstamped top button

Don’t look too bad! Hard to understand the large difference in price apart from sizing of course.

Example patch on a later pair of 701’s notice the ‘HIP’ measurement too.
